Herbal Body Soak
Makes 28 ounces

Bay leaves and marjoram are known for stimulating circulation while easing achy muslces and stiff joints. Marjoram, which is related to oregano, has a very relaxing scent.

1/4 cup dry bay leaves
1/4 cup dry marjoram leaves
1 cup baking soda
2 cups fine sea salt or epsom salts
1 to 2 drops tea tree essential oil

Crush the dried herbs in a coffee grinder or by hand in a glass bowl until you have a fine green powderish mixture. In a larger bowl, mix together herbsm soda and salt, stirring well. Store the mixture in an airtight container. To use, pour 1/2 cup of the blend into your bath and enjoy. If you choose to have this mixture near your bathtub for easy acsess be sure and store it in a container that has a rubber fitting lid so that no moisture can get into the soak.

Recipe for Bath Bombs

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Bath bombs can be a bit tricky to make, but they’re oh so worth the trouble! These little balls of scented goodness are dropped into your bathwater, where they fizz up and make your bath smell like a dream. Or a fruit stand, herb garden, flower shop, or whatever your chosen scents remind you of.

The key to making great bath bombs is adding just the right amount of moisture. You don’t want to overdo it, or the fizzing will start and end while you’re frantically trying to control the mistake. Not enough moisture will cause dry, flaky bath bombs that will most likely crumble to bits before hitting your bath.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons citric acid (found at wine or beer brewing shops)
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons sweet almond oil, olive oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil, or nut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon essential or cosmetic-grade fragrance oil
  • 6-10 drop liquid soap colourant (optional)
