Use what’s in your cabinet to clean your home

956147_spongeIt’s amazing what you can use in your own cabinet to clean just about anything around your home everyday. Here are some quick tips to keep in mind when it comes to cleaning and tidying up your home.

1. Glycerin: Glycerin can be used to remove waxy substances and works great on candle drips from a candle stick or other. Peeling off as much wax as possible then dabbing the area with glycerin can remove all of the waxy substance completely.

2. Club Soda: The old saying holds true about removing red wine stains with club soda, but it can remove other stains as well when treated with the soda right away. Club soda can also help stainless steel regain its former glory if it’s scuffed up. Just dampen a cloth with the solution and wipe the area, and then dry with a cotton rag to bring back the shine.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide: You can use peroxide to disinfect hard to reach areas like buttons and other tight areas as well.

4. Cornstarch: Use cornstarch to help soak up grease spills or other oily spots that are hard to clean. Let sit on the area for about 30 minutes then vacuum up.

5. Rubbing Alcohol: Takes away permanent marker markings and helps to remove sticky residue on glass surfaces or other smooth areas.

*Here’s a quick tip to keeping your makeup fresh: Place round or square yard sale stickers with the date to replace and throw out makeup. This will help keep things fresh and you will always know what needs to be replaced when. Never use makeup or other products that smell funny or look different than they did when you purchased them.*

1. If you have a drawer full of assorted colors of lipstick or chap sticks, consider combining them into one carry-all case. If anyone is like me, I have a full drawer of lipsticks I just love, but there is only a 1/3, or less of the lipstick left in the tube. If you gather all those tubes together and melt them down, you can pour them all into an easy carry-all lipstick pallette, such as the one from Japonesque. It’s about eleven dollars and it allows you combine all those sticks into one area, and you can even mix and match colors to create a great new shade.

2. If you use brushes for your face, eyes and lips, never swirl them on a bar of soap then rinse them under hot water. And never ever place them in the dishwasher or microwave. This can loosen the glue that holds the bristles in the brush. Instead get a brush cleaning solution such as one by Clinique.

3. Save your eyeliner by sticking it in the freezer for 20 minutes. If you use the rock hard kind that drags on your eyelid, throw it out. You are pulling on delicate eye skin that could make you look like a hound dog in your older years. Instead opt for one that is softer and as you sharpen it down pop it in the freezer before using.

4. Don’t throw out that nail polish just yet. If your paint for your nails has gone from cool and fabulous to sticky and obnoxious, all you need to do is revive it with some nail polish thinner. A few drops of acetone-based remover will help loosen the lacquer for one coat, but it will ruin it. Instead use a solution called Nail Polish Thinner by Super Nail. It will help revive the old polish instead of ruin it.
