Making your Own Aromatherapy Mists

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

spray1.jpgYou can use these misters to spray on linens or into the air and they are a lot more healthy and lung compatible to your lungs, your families lungs and your pets.

What you will need to get started:

1. 3 ounces of distilled water
2. 1 ounce of vodka
3. 50 drops of your choice of essential oil blend

The vodka will help disperse the essential oils in the water when it is combined. Take the 3 ounces of distilled water and the vodka and pour into a plastic spray bottle that is a dark color. The color of the spray bottle will help the oils from deteriorating in the mixture over time. Shake the contents and add the essential oil drops one by one. Consider using citrus and spice essential oil combinations because these aren’t typically ones used for the skin.

Here is an essential oil blends to consider:

• For all around the house:

5 drops Cinnamon essential oil
5 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
5 drops Lemon essential oil
5 drops Sage essential oil
5 drops Thyme essential oil
10 drops Bergamot essential oil
10 drops Citronella essential oil
10 drops Lavender essential oil
10 drops Tea Tree essential oil

You can change any of these oil blends to mix in your favorite scent. You can even add all of the above essential oil blends to a diffuser and place in the bathroom or the kitchen or whatever room needs more scent distributed throughout. Use the spray and add to your air vents to be distributed throughout the entire house.

Vaporized Room Scents

diffuser.jpgPromote a specific mood inside your home by using a purchased diffuser (a glass or ceramic container and votive candle) to disperse the scent of an essntial oil. Follow the diffuser’s instructions. If you do not have a diffuser, simply add a few drops of eential oil to a pan of water and heat it on the stovetop. Try the following basic combinations, or experiment with your own blends.

Relaxing Blend:

4 drops bergamont essential oil
3 drops lavender essential oil
1 drop frankincese essential oil
1-2 drops neroli essential oil

Energizing Blend:

5 drops peppermint essential oil
3 drops geranium essential oil
1 drop eucalyptus essential oil
1 drop wintergreen essential oil

Cleansing Blend:

2 drops lemon essential oil
1 drop thyme essential oil
4 drops geranium essential oil
2 drops manderin essential oil

Place the essential oils into the glass bowl or diffuser of your choosing or in the pan if doing it on the stovetop. Light the candle to heat the oils and release the scent through the room. Use for 5 to 15 minutes at a time. If you use a tealight candle, when the candle burns out the oils should be gone as well. Watch your water, for the oils will burn if the water has evaporated before the candle burns out compeletely. (Source: Herb Companion 2007)

WAX AND BUBBLES PRODUCT SHOWCASE:

bullfrog-light-comp.jpgThe Bullfrog Candle got its start nearly three decades ago, when the Stewart children asked for help with a candle- making school project. The children moved on to other interests while Bill continued to experiment with candles of his own design. After many years, the secret candle glow was perfected by using the highest quality wax and “just a little magic”.

In 1981, candle-making became a vocation instead of a hobby, and the company was named for the noisy bullfrogs at the adjacent Shiawassee Flats Game Refuge. Since then, the company has created hundreds of thousands of glowing candles that have become the trademark of Bullfrog Light Co. Each candle is hand-crafted from start to finish in Charlevoix, Michigan, where the growing business was relocated in 1985.

Easy Homemade Cleaners (Happy New Years 2008)

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

lemon.jpgWith a little “elbow-grease” and some household products you already have in your house, you can clean you entire house without harming your lungs or health. The following is a list of all the products you need to make your house a better living environment for yourself and others, as well as pet.

1. Borax
2. white vinegar
3. Hot Water
4. Liquid Soap
5. Baking Soda
6. Washing Soda
7. Olive OIl
8. A Soft Cloth
9. Newspaper
10. Lemon Juice
11. Hydrogen Peroxide

And here is how to incorporate those cleaners into homemade products you can use right now:

• How To Make An All-Purpose Disinfectant: Mix 2 tsp. borax, one quarter cup vinegar and 3 to 4 cups hot water in a spray bottle. For extra cleaning power, add one quarter tsp. liquid soap to the mixture.

• How To Make A Countertop Cleaner For The Kitchen: For a “soft scrub”, mix baking soda and liquid soap until you gat a consistency you like. Make only as much as you need at that time, it will dry up quickly.

• How To Make A Safer Oven Cleaner: Mix 1 cup baking soda and one quarter cup washing soda, then add enough water to make a paste; apply the paste to the oven surface and let it sit overnight. In the morning, wipe out and rinse the surface with water.

• How To Make A Safer Tub And Tile Cleaner: Mix 1 2/3 cups baking soda, one hald cup liquid soap, and one half cup water. Last, add 2 tbs. vinegar (if you add the vinegar too early it will react with the baking soda). Immediately apply, wipe and scrub.

• How To Make A Toilet Bowl Cleaner: Pour 1 cup of borax into the toilet before going to bed. In the morning, scrub and flush. For an extra-strength cleaners, add one quarter cup vinegar to the borax.

• How To Make Furniture Polish: Mix olive oil and vinegar in a one-to-one ratio and polish with a soft cloth.

• How To Make A Safer Window Cleaner: Mix 3 tbs. vinegar per 1 quart water in a spray bottle. Some recommend using half vinegar and half water. For extra-dirty windows try one hald tsp. liquid soap, 3 tbs. vinegar and 1 cups water. Shake well. Want streak-free windows, use newspaper instead of paper towels to wipe your windows instead.

• How To Get Your Laundry Brighter: Add one half cup of strained lemon juice during the rinse cycle.

• How To Make A Solution To Remove Detergent From Clothes Compeletely: Add one quarter cup white vinegar during the washing machine’s rinse cycle to remove detergent completely from the clothes, eliminating that scratchy feeling from your clothes.

• How To Make A Detergent Booster: To reduce the amount of laundry detergent you need to use, add baking soda or washing soda. These minerals soften the water, which increases the detergent;s power. For liquid detergent, add one half cup soda at the beginning of the wash. For powdered detergent, add one half cup soda during the rinse cycle.

• How To Get Whiter Clothes Without Using Bleach: Use hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine bleach.

• To Make Any Of These Cleaners Smell Better: Simply add some essential oils to your mix.

Make Your Own Room Scent

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

spray1.jpg

With the chemicals that are in the room sprays on the market currently, making your own with the ingredients you know are healthier and contain no lung harming products. You can experiment with your own blend of oils and see what works best for you or your family’s smell. Essential oils are important in everyone’s sense of smell. Finding what scent is best for you, is a task that will take you on a great journey that will take your senses to places they have never been. Once you find that perfect scent, make a room scent or spray and use it whenever you need to refresh your house or car. Here’s how:

Cleansing Room Scent For Your Home or Car®™ BeeSpa Naturals

2 cups distilled water
20 drops lemon essential oil
10 drops thyme essential oil
40 drops geranium essential oil
20 drops manderin essential oil
20 drops grapefruit essential oil

Place distilled water in a pot and bring to a boil over high heat. Meanwhile, place essential oils in an aluminum or glass spray bottle. After distilled water begins boiling, pour, very carefully, using a funnel into the bottle with the essential oils. Shake vigourously for several minutes. Place mixture in a dark environment till it has cooled down quite a bit. Once it is cool, spray in several locations throughout your home. To see a drastic scent change in your home or car, spray everyday for at least a week. Be sure and shake several times before use each time.

This recipe can even be used as a perfume on the body. Try it out and experiment with different essential oils till you find one that smells great on your skin. You may find that making your perfume or cologne is a lot easier than buying it at one of the name-brand stores. Just have fun with it.
