Fake Cakes?
As the cost of weddings keeps going higher and higher and cake makers falling short of making a great cake that’s perfect in every way without some complaints, couples and cake makers are finding a least one way to cut corners all the way around. It’s called a “Fake Cake”.
Real wedding cakes, made with more than just a plain cake mix and plain icing, with average amounts of decorations, not counting the top decorations or even the sides being handcrafted, go for about $543 on the average. And that’s without more than 2-3 stories. For as low as $100, you can get a pretty good looking replica made out of foam or even some are made out of wax. These replicas have a secret compatment tucked in the back for hiding the special, all important, piece. Once the exchange of the “all-important-piece” is over, you simply take away the replica and bring out something less pricey to serve to your wedding guests.

Everything is covered by gum paste and fondant, a frosting-like confection made from sugar and water often used in cakes and pastries. Some of the detailing that is wax stays intact till the cake is taken apart for transport.
These “fake cakes” cane either be rented or made by hand yourself. There are many bakeries going this route now because more and more couples are getting married on a budget. It just makes good sense to reserve your money till after the wedding and not spend it all on wedding decorations and mostly not over $500 on a cake that will be sitting in guest digestive tract for a day or two after the celebration.

I couldn’t be with my Mother on her birthday so I bought her a Fake Birthday Cake from Aunt Bubbies Fake Foods. She said it was the best gift she has gotten in many years and she will treasure it forever. I was really happy to hear her giggles on the phone.

Wow, what a collection! Thanks for this. It was a joy reading through some of it and I might use it for further research.
