nails.jpgEven though Wax and Bubbles is geared more toward soap based washes, face cleansers and even how-to on making your own soap-based product, as well as wax-based projects, candles, and wax products, it also has to do with taking care of certain part of your body. For one, soaking your hands in a soap based cleanser can help clean under the nails, freshen the cuticles, as well as help the health of your nails.

The best manicure techniques are also the healthiest. A manicure is the fastest way to give hands a youth boost and you a confidence boost. When you don’t have healthy nails it shows and could be more than just poor maintenance of you hands and nails. Luckily, getting a professional pampered look doesn’t require a lot of time or cash. Having the right how-to information at hand to safeguard nails and guarantee great results. here, four common mistakes and smart fixes to protect nails from breakage, bacteria, and more-and to protect and keep you fingers healthy and looking great. Here are some common mistakes and some easy solutions for getting healthy nails in time to show them off this summer.

Mistake #1: You file your nails back and forth. The sawing motion you are giving your nails with that file, weakens the nails, causing them to split or even break.

Solution: File in one direction with a soft emery board. To prevent breakage, keep nails short and square with a slightly rounded edge.

Mistake #2: You use acetone-based polish remover. The solvent strips away the moisture and natural oils that keep nails flexible.

Solution: Switch to a gentler acetone-free formula, like Barielle Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover or Cutex Quick & Gently No Acetone Nail Polish Remover.

Mistake #3: You cut your cuticles: This skin acts as a barrier against infection-causing bacteria. If you get your nails done, tell the manicurist NOT to cut your cuticles.

Solution: Soak nails in warm water with a mild soap to soften cuticles and push them back after the soaking with an orange stick. Use a cuticle nipper to snip away pieces of dry skin, which are commonly referred to as “hangnails”.

Mistake #4: You paint your nails with last year’s nail polish. Most lacquers formulated before 2007 contain dibutyl phthalate, a chemical shown to cause birth defects.

Solution: Buy a new polish that’s phthalate free, like ones from OPI, Avon or Sally Hansen, or go all natural with your polish for added benefits.
