Protect your skin after a sunburn
The best way to protect your skin from a sunburn is to apply sunscreen, but even the best sunscreen can’t guarantee 100% protection if you don’t reapply or keep your sun time to a minimum. When that happens the next best thing is to apply a sunburn cream or wrap to help the skin heal. Here are four recipes to make in your own home to help with sunburned skin on you or your family.
1. Sunburn Cooling Towels:
10 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil
2 cups luke warm water
Small hand towels
Glass bowl
Pour water into the glass bowl and add the essential oil drops. Stir slightly and add the towels one at a time. Soak the towels completely and wring out the excess water and apply to burned skin. Keep on the skin until the towels go chilled and re-soak and apply as many times as desired.
2. Sunburn Relief Mist:
2 drops German chamomile essential oil
8 drops lavender essential oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil
3 drops peppermint essential oil
2 oz. white vinegar
Mix all ingredients together in a spray bottle and apply to skin as needed throughout the day.
3. Sunburn Relief Gel:
2 1/2 oz. aloe vera gel (Available in supermarkets everywhere)
20 drops German chamomile essential oil
20 drops lavender essential oil
6 drops peppermint essential oil
Mix ingredients together and apply to skin as needed throughout the day. Store leftover gel in the refrigerator in an air-tight container.
4. Sunburn Relief Cream:
2 drops German chamomile essential oil
5 drops frankincense essential oil
11 drops lavender essential oil
4 drops peppermint essential oil
Cream base (use unscented natural or organic lotion or cream)
Combine all ingredients together and apply to skin where needed.
